As I'm in a dry pair of nickers and this is a transition season I will be happy with the same final position or higher, a decent attempt at the cups (or 1 cup depending on our European qualifiers) and an all round improvement in the playing style.

We need to make sure we beat the lower sides at home instead of drawing them like we did under Allardyce. I can see Bilic demanding 3 points in those games, and if we don't win them he won't stand there after the game with a string of pathetic excuses and telling everyone that we were unlucky or were robbed.

I expect somewhere around 14th too, maybe one or two lower depending how far we go in cups and injuries.
That isn't pessimism though. I reckon we'll play more attractive football but due to the squad he was left with it'll take Bilic at least a season to adapt.
14th with better football, a cup run or two and a manager that goes into each game trying to win it will be good progress in my humble - first time I've looked forward to a season for a long time

I admire your optimism coffee but can’t get that enthusiastic myself; I think we may well struggle a bit, maybe not relegation fodder but not far away from the teams looking at the drop, 10th at best for me.
As to being able to compete with Spurs and Liverpool, Spurs maybe, but that’s a big maybe, Liverpool though, that’s delusional im afraid, but yes we do on paper have some decent players but will they gel and in some cases, will they stay out of the treatment room long enough.
Pre season and Europa haven’t really gone to plan, im going to take the positive out of that and hope it’s a wake up call for players and management that we need to knuckle down and work hard, and the board really need to get another striker URGENTLY
Happy to be proved wrong and we are top 10 though

Coffee - I don't disgaree, I think we will be fine this term. Whether or not we bring in a goalscorer between now and the end of August could also be key.

Valencia, Sakho, Carroll, plus an enhanced attacking midfield... Zarate showing some form. Another good striker added? It'll come right soon enough.

I'm expecting 14th...hoping to steer clear of the relegation dog fight, but expecting a season of change where we'll score a few more, but look disorganised defensively at the start of the season so ship a few more.
Expect us to give and get a few tankings along the way.
Could be a rollercoaster!

I think the pessimism is largely due to the fact that we still don't appear to have many goals in the squad.
As for finishing above Liverpool..

I'm a bit surprised at the level of pessimism on here -- presumably based largely on recent results.
Our squad and first team is arguably stronger than it's been for a generation. Assuming an average level of injuries throughout the season, it's reasonable to say that these teams will be better than us:
Man U
Man C
Chelsea
Arsenal
Next in terms of strength are Liverpool and Spurs, but we should be able to compete with both of those.
We should be stronger than:
Southampton
Everton
Villa
Bournemouth
Palace
Leicester
Newcastle
Norwich
Stoke
Sunderland
Swansea
Watford
West Brom
If we get another couple of decent signings on board, there's no reason not to hope for 5th and expect 7th.

Seeing as I've just signed up to premier league.com which shows every prem league game down here in NZ for approx £90 I fully expect us to win the league, become EL champions - failing that, mid table will do me.

I really thought top 7 was well in our grasp ,being the fickle fucer i am , our preseason (in which i include the EL) has left me feel a bit more grounded)
i hope we pick up a style of play soon , and if we get well drilled i cant see why we cant have a good season.
We need a srtiker maybe two

It absolutely amazes me how people talk of Europe as if it's a bad thing and discredit the level of football.
